The city of Chengde
in northeastern Hebei Province is the site of the summer resort of the Qing emperors. It
is about 200 kilometers from Beijing and is easily accessible by either train or
long-distance bus.
The magnificent Mountain Resort and the 12 Buddhist temples at its periphery were built
during the Qing Dynasty, the last feudal chinese dynasty. It served as the second
political center of the Qing imperial court and the emperors of the early Qing Dynasty
often spent their summers there, conducting state affairs and engaging in important
political activities. The Mountain Resort and its temples and palaces have made chengde a
famous historical and cultural city, and one of china's leading scenic spots. The imperial
Resort was listed in the directory of the world's cultural heritages in 1994.Anyuan, or ILi, Temple (Temple of Consola- tion for People from Afar)
In 1759 people from a clan of Junggar tribe in Xinjiang migrated to the Chengde area. Five
years later, the Qing government had a temple similar to the Guerzha Temple on the
northern bank of the Ili River in Xinjiang erected in Chengde for their use. Right, Buddha

Situated on a hill southwest of the Lizheng Gate(Gate of Beauty and Righteousness ) ,
visitors may gain a panoramic view of the landscape of lakes and mountains from the
Pavilion.
Saihanba State Forest Park
Itis the biggest one in the North of China. It is located in the north of Chengde,a
part of Mulan Hunting Ground ---the famous inperial hunting ground of Qing
Dynasty. The total area of the park is 1,410,000 mu,among this,the forest covering
1,060,000 mu and the pasture covering 200,000 mu. 75.2% of the whole area is covered
by forest. With the distinctive climate and a long history, it becomes a very
